The owners of a 50-foot sailboat select a JT-90 Jet Thruster system to improve maneuverability in marinas.7:16 Unlike traditional tunnel thrusters, which require deep-draft hulls, the Jet Thruster uses a centrifugal pump to force water through nozzles mounted 7 to 10 centimeters below the waterline.1:07 This configuration allows for installation in shallow bow areas where tunnel thrusters are impractical.18:42 The system components, including the pump unit and intake, are constructed from marine-grade composite materials to resist corrosion.8:53 Because the nozzles can be positioned further forward in the bow than a tunnel, the system provides a longer lever arm for pivoting the vessel.17:42 The pump requires a minimum draft of 30 centimeters and operates via a joystick, with maintenance limited to replacing an internal zinc ring anode every one to two years.11:32 The system also offers a secondary utility as a high-volume emergency fire-extinguishing pump.20:36
