Maya and Aladino, owners of a Formosa Yachts 51, install a custom California-style dodger on their vessel while docked at Gabriola Island.1:02 The project utilizes Sunbrella fabric and polycarbonate windows, designed with removable enclosure panels to allow for a bimini-only configuration in tropical climates.8:36 The construction process involves using YKK locking Vaisalon number 10 zippers to maintain tension and double-sided tape for precise window placement.5:08 Maintenance recommendations for the finished dodger include cleaning with OxiClean to remove moss, reapplying a silicone-based water repellent like Aquatite, and treating polycarbonate windows with a UV protectant such as Clear to See.10:24 The crew also fabricates custom elasticized covers for portholes to provide privacy while at the dock.6:01 The project was completed with the assistance of a friend, Simon, who is concurrently performing a major refit on his own Formosa 51, including replacing deck beams and updating electrical and plumbing systems.15:58
