Lauren Landers completes a 420-mile solo passage from the Marquesas to a remote atoll in the Tuamotus.▶ 4:20 Maintaining an average speed of 5.5 to 6 knots, the transit takes approximately three days.▶ 5:09 Wind conditions remain light, averaging 8 to 13 knots, which necessitates an hour of engine use and results in a comfortable sea state with waves around one meter.▶ 14:25 To ensure safe entry through the pass with good visibility for navigating coral bommies, Landers times her arrival for 11 a.m. and reefs the jib to slow the vessel as she approaches the atoll.▶ 17:35 She coordinates the arrival with the crew of SV Isla to enter the pass together.▶ 17:41 Upon arrival, she anchors in a lagoon with approximately 15 other boats and explores local coral heads and beaches.▶ 21:42 Throughout the passage, she manages meal prep using frozen stores and monitors the dinghy’s position to minimize wear against the Hydrovane.▶ 10:16
