The Catana 53 is a fractional sloop catamaran designed by Bureau detudes Catana, built by Catana since 2013. It measures 16.2 meters LOA with an 8.7-meter beam, a 3.6-meter draft, and a light displacement of 14,000 kg. The model is available with two 75 hp engines. Aboard WEsail, a delivery crew prepared a 15-year-old Catana 55 for a 2,400-nautical-mile passage from Tahiti to Hawaii.1:07 The crew experienced multiple mechanical failures during a shakedown cruise from Raiatea, including autopilot malfunction, dead house batteries, and a lost mainsail batten.8:13 They replaced the entire battery bank and installed new solar controllers in Tahiti before the offshore transit.11:21
