Character

Where this design lands on the numbers a shopper trusts — read straight from her own ratios.

TrailerableBeam 2.13 m — inside the 2.55 m no-permit tow width across most of Europe, and the 2.59 m US and Canadian limit. About 907 kg of hull, so roughly 1,500 kg on a trailer: check that against your own towing rating.Ramp-launchableAbout 907 kg of hull, with a keel that raises or a draft shallow enough to float off a trailer — she can go back on the trailer at the ramp, not only into the water.Shoal draftDraws 0.61 m, board up where she has one — creeks, sandbars and thin anchorages most keels have to stay out of.
LivelySea-kindly

Her moderate displacement on a beamy beam gives 14 — a quick, lively motion that feels every wave.

Comfort ratio 14
CoastalBluewater

2.22 — right around the 2.0 line, the edge between coastal and offshore.

Capsize screening 2.22
LightHeavy

205 — moderately heavy for her waterline, a balanced cruising weight.

Displacement / length 205
EasygoingPowered-up

14.6 — modest power for her weight; easygoing rather than lively, and happier with a breeze.

Sail area / displacement 14.6
TenderStiff

40% of her weight is ballast — moderately stiff, a middle-of-the-road stability.

Ballast 40%

A balanced, easily-driven cruiser — comfortable and forgiving for coastal work.

What the fleet has seen

The Com-Pac Yachts 19, as the fleet has seen it

Derived from the videos the fleet has analysed of this model. ▶ marks open the moment aboard.

The Com-Pac Yachts 19 is a 5.8-meter masthead sloop designed by Robert K. Johnson, built by Com-Pac Yachts since 1979. It features a fin keel with a transom-hung rudder, a 2.1-meter beam, a 0.6-meter draft, and displaces 907 kg. Com-Pac Yachts, founded by Les Hutchins in 1970, specializes in trailerable, shoal-draft sailboats. The company uses hand-laid fiberglass construction and maintains in-house metal and wood shops for assembly.5:44 While early Com-Pac models, including the 19, feature fixed shoal keels, newer designs like the Picnic Cat and Sun Cat incorporate stainless steel centerboards for improved upwind performance and a "mast tender" quick-rig system for easier trailering.7:48
