The Hinckley Yachts 42 COMPETITION is a masthead sloop designed by McCurdy&Rhodes and built by Henry R. Hinckley, Co. and Hinckley Yachts, with production beginning in 1982. This 12.8-meter sailboat has a fin with spade rudder hull, a beam of 3.7 meters, a draft of 2.2 meters, and displaces 9752 kg. It is based on the Hinckley Sou'wester 42/43.1:12 The Hinckley Sou'wester 51 *Momentum*, a related model, is a 1993 performance cruiser with a custom Kevlar hull, 3,000 pounds lighter than sister ships. *Momentum* was originally designed by Ted Hood and Dieter Empacher with a 9-foot-6-inch draft for ocean racing, later modified by Jim Taylor to a 7-foot-6-inch draft for improved marina access.1:55 Its owner upgraded it for short-handed sailing with a Leisure Furl boom, electric winches, and a wired remote for the mainsheet.2:06 A carbon fiber rig increased mast height by five feet, adding 115 square feet of sail area and reducing weight aloft. *Momentum* has completed five Bermuda races and a transatlantic passage from Bermuda to Troon, Scotland.9:03
