The Waarschip 36 LD is a fractional sloop with a fin and spade rudder, built by Waarschip from 1987 to the present, measuring 10.8 meters LOA with a 3.4-meter beam and displacing 4799 kg. It is offered with optional 600-liter water ballast tanks, adding up to 615 kg of ballast, and a deep draft keel option of 2.2 meters. Aboard *Balanço*, a 1988 model, the crew undertook extensive hull and keel restoration at Yacht Club Aratu in Bahia, Brazil.20:51 This involved applying monomer to activate old fiberglass at the keel-to-hull joint before sealing it with epoxy resin and tightening keel bolts with a 38mm socket.22:20 The restoration also included replacing the propeller and installing a new sonar transducer, tasks complicated by the need to maintain a watertight seal while the boat was in the water.18:46 Persistent rain and high humidity frequently stalled exterior work, leading the crew to prioritize interior tasks like varnishing furniture.2:17
