The J J/99 is a 9.9-meter fractional sloop designed by Alan Johnstone and built by J Boats since 2019, featuring a fin with bulb and spade rudder hull, with twin rudders and an all-lead deep fin keel available as options. It displaces 3817 kg with a 2.0-meter draft and a 3.4-meter beam. Aboard SEILmagasinet, Petter Gustafsson sailed a J/99 to an overall victory in the Færderseilasen 2025 regatta, having transitioned from a J/111. During the race, the crew executed approximately 100 jibes down the center of the fjord to maximize wind pressure, overtaking competitors who hugged the eastern shore.1:53 Gustafsson attributes the win to tactical positioning rather than boat speed in light air, emphasizing real-time visual observation of wind conditions over data analysis during the race.2:47 For regatta safety, the J/99 crew carries two buckets with lanyards, a waterproof first-aid kit, a foghorn, and a manual compass, along with conical wooden plugs for through-hull fittings.5:03 Personal safety gear includes life jackets with crotch straps, lights, and spray hoods, inspected annually.14:10
