The Beneteau Oceanis 40, designed by Berret-Racoupeau and Nauta Design, is a fractional sloop with a fin bulb and spade rudder hull, built by Beneteau from 2007. Marketed in the US as the Beneteau 40, it measures 12.2 meters LOA with a 3.9-meter beam and 1.9-meter draft, displacing 8259 kg. The model offered an optional shallow draft keel of 1.55 meters. Aboard *Vagabond Voyages*, an Oceanis 40 survived a Category 3 Cyclone Bayanu in Fiji without structural damage, though its crew addressed corroded door hinges and performed general cleaning.1:55 Andy Schell of *59° North Sailing* mentioned the Beneteau Oceanis 40 as a boat a less experienced sailor might outgrow, contrasting it with offshore-designed vessels and noting its sail-area-to-displacement ratio below his preferred 17–19 range for offshore sailing.16:50
