Golden Globe Race entrant Doug Dean discusses his preparations and background in a live interview. Dean, a United States-based sailor, purchased the Rustler 36 sailboat formerly owned by Uku Randmaa, named *One and All*.5:39 He confirms he intends to keep the vessel's original name.31:58 Dean describes his background as a pilot and rancher in the Nebraska sandhills, noting that his experience with aviation and aerial firebombing informs his approach to the challenges of solo, non-stop circumnavigation.7:50 He recounts recent logistical difficulties, including travel restrictions and health issues such as Lyme disease and pneumonia, which have delayed his ability to work on the boat since May.5:39 Despite these setbacks and the unpredictable nature of the current global pandemic, Dean maintains his intent to compete in the race rather than merely finish.34:23 He emphasizes that his primary motivation for participating is the opportunity to relive the spirit of the original 1968 solo race using traditional navigation methods like sextants and wind-up clocks.1:27
