Johan and Malin transitioned from seven years of full-time cruising to land-based life at Sunhill Farm to build a custom 50-foot sailboat, named Ron 3.0:07 After securing a naval architect for 3D hull design and calculations, they converted a barn into a workshop by installing windows, new lighting, and a large wall opening for hull accessibility.0:42 The construction process began in November with the fabrication of 22 temporary hull frames, followed by the assembly of a strong back foundation.2:04 They sourced 4 cubic meters of western red cedar from British Columbia for the hull planking, alongside teak and mahogany for the interior.4:38 By April, they began mounting cedar strips to the frame skeleton.8:51 They also constructed a 2-meter, 60-kilogram oak stem for the bow.6:53 As of June, the hull planking reached the waterline, and the team prepared for the upcoming fiberglass lamination phase.12:32 Throughout the project, they maintained their previous boat, Arcticus, for local sailing.12:56
