Qué cubre este vídeo
After six months in a Marina Del Rey marina on Lombok, Indonesia, a 1965 Alberg 30 sloop named Triteia departed for a 25-nautical-mile passage to Gili Air. During the departure, the vessel experienced simultaneous, unrelated failures of three independent GPS sources: a Garmin Glow 2 GPS puck, an AIS unit, and a PredictWind Data Hub. The Garmin puck failed due to a faulty battery, which was resolved by swapping in a spare. The PredictWind Data Hub stopped transmitting GPS data to the iPad because the annual subscription had lapsed, disabling the tracking feature. The AIS unit’s failure was traced to a faulty stern-mounted antenna, which was confirmed by temporarily connecting the Data Hub’s antenna to the AIS. The engine also stalled twice during the departure, likely due to idling too low after a long period of inactivity. The vessel successfully reached Gili Air and secured a mooring ball for 50,000 rupiah per night. Multiple redundant navigation systems can fail simultaneously, requiring manual troubleshooting of individual antennas, power sources, and software subscriptions.
