Nova Loman removes the mast from her 1970s sailboat in Sweden to perform rig maintenance before hauling out for the season. She motors to a self-service crane facility, where she first removes the sails and boom. To prepare for the lift, she secures a sling around the mast to relieve deck pressure before disconnecting the shrouds, stays, and furler. After hoisting the mast with the crane’s winch, she lowers it onto a transport wagon to move it to a storage area. The process requires careful maneuvering to prevent the rigging from tangling in the lifelines. Once the mast is clear, she returns to her temporary mooring. Later in the season, she re-steps the mast but neglects to reinstall the Windex due to cold, rainy weather. She eventually anchors at a popular island location for a wild mooring.
