Pär Nyman, sailing in the Golden Globe Race 2026, is becalmed in the Doldrums near 13°N 28°W and works through a full sun-sight reduction by sextant and chronometer to fix his position. Dead reckoning placed him at 13°10'N, 28°25'W; the sight calculation yields an estimated position of 13°13'N, 28°30'W.5:22:28 He walks through each step — measuring the sun's altitude, extracting declination and tabulated altitude from the almanac, computing LHA, applying D-corrections, and plotting the intercept at 108° to draw a position line on his chart.5:08:29 A mechanical chronometer, received as a gift, is checked daily against radio time signals; he adjusts for its drift in calculations rather than resetting the watch.5:11:41 Gooseneck barnacles appeared on the hull within days of a clean check, requiring a brief heave-to and underwater scrub.5:00:34 With almost no wind, Nyman keeps sails up for any movement, monitors antifouling paint peeling in patches, and makes ice cream to pass the time.5:01:10 He notes that fellow GGR skipper Daniel Turner was stuck for three days nearby, while Pat Lawless is closing from behind.5:36:23 Celestial navigation logs must be submitted on return as proof of work.5:23:50
