Singlehanded Stern to with a cross wind - Sharpen Up Ep 20

Qué cubre este vídeo

Executing a singlehanded stern-to docking maneuver with lazy lines requires precise timing and wind management, particularly when no dockhands are available to assist. Begin by assessing wind speed and direction to determine the approach angle, aiming to bias the boat slightly upwind of the target berth. Use the engine in forward gear with the rudder turned toward the wind to act as a thruster, bringing the stern into position while maintaining enough momentum to step off and secure the windward stern line. Once the windward line is fast, use it to hold the boat’s position against the wind while managing the leeward line. When retrieving lazy lines, proceed slowly to avoid fouling the propeller, especially if multiple lines are present. After securing the lazy line to the bow cleat, ease the stern lines to create space, tension the bow line, and then reverse the engine to set the anchor or mooring system. Proper staging and deliberate, unhurried movements prevent the need for excessive physical effort or emergency maneuvers.
