Sailing vessel Reality departs Kalkoi on a multi-day coastal passage along Turkey's southwest coast toward Rhodes, with a failed windlass dominating the trip. The 1,700-watt 12-volt windlass burns out for the second time that season — the third replacement overall, the previous swap having been done in Sarandë, Albania — forcing the crew to haul the anchor chain by hand using a sail winch and rope. The route runs from Kalkoi past Demre and Finike to Kaş, then northwest to Gocek, with a planned final crossing to Rhodes. At Finike the crew discovers their insurance does not cover that area, preventing them from leaving the boat unattended at anchor. Fish farms shown on the chartplotter but not always visible in the water are noted as a hazard along this stretch. At Gocek the windlass is replaced in the bilge, a dragging-anchor incident involving four unattended boats nearby is observed and managed, and checkout from Turkey is completed through a maritime agent at customs, obtaining a transit log. A direct run to Rhodes in 30–40 knot headwinds with 3-metre seas forces a diversion to an anchorage near the Dalyan River. The final departure to Rhodes — 28.5 nautical miles — leaves from Ekincik in 20-knot northwest winds. A windlass undersized for the chain and anchor weight will burn out repeatedly under normal use.
