While sailing through Sunnalsfjorden, Norway, the crew of the 38-ft sailboat Jibsea experienced a sudden wind shift that caused their Code Zero to backwind and wrap around the headsail.10:15 The crew attempted to furl the sail, but the top of the Code Zero tangled with the headsail, shredding the sail and damaging the halyard.11:02 They were forced to turn the boat directly into the wind to relieve pressure and clear the rigging.11:40 The incident occurred due to unpredictable katabatic winds, which frequently create sudden, powerful gusts in narrow Norwegian fjords.14:41 Following the loss of the sail, the crew navigated into a tight harbor, where they encountered limited docking space and competition for mooring spots with local tour RIBs.19:30 They successfully docked at an open-access wall after clarifying that the space was first-come, first-served.20:51 The crew concluded that flying a furling Code Zero in the fjords carries significant risk compared to a dousing-style spinnaker.14:25
