Tom and Karen, sailing the 40-foot Sea Rose, transit the Scottish Inner Hebrides from Iona to the mainland bay of Sandegg. After departing Iona, they beam reach toward the island of Staffa to view its basalt columns and puffin colonies, noting that the island’s primitive dock remains inaccessible due to unfavorable wind and wave conditions. They continue to the island of Muck, where they find an honesty-box shop, but depart the harbor late at night because the anchorage feels too close to rocks for the forecasted wind. They relocate four miles to the island of Eigg to find better protection. The following day, they tack 25 miles upwind against a northerly breeze toward the mainland. Upon reaching the expansive, shallow bay of Sandegg, they anchor well offshore and dinghy to land for hiking. The route concludes with plans to navigate the narrow channel at Kyle Rhea and visit the town of Plockton.
