Mads continues the refit of a 44-foot hurricane-damaged catamaran by addressing structural concerns and installing chain-management hardware.Watch After discovering UV-degraded epoxy and poorly consolidated fiberglass laminate in previous hull repairs, he plans to grind down and re-laminate the affected areas on the starboard hull. To prevent chain chafe and ensure smooth anchor deployment, he installs custom fiberglass tubes between the tramp ramp and the windlass, using a string-alignment technique to ensure the new holes are centered with the anchor roller. He utilizes 3D-printed TPU sanding blocks and custom spacers to assist with fairing and hardware mounting, while relying on Total Boat Total Fare for surface preparation. Although the hull repair remains a significant project, the current focus is preparing the vessel for a summer transit along the Intracoastal Waterway. The crew intends to perform a more comprehensive structural repair once the boat is relocated to a controlled environment further north. Proper alignment of anchor-chain tubes prevents chafe and ensures reliable self-launching of the anchor.
