While beachcombing on the windward side of Fulonga in Fiji, the crew of the 40-ft catamaran Nahoa discovered a discarded, cut-open package containing a white substance.0:11 Based on markings and packaging similarities to a recent police report from the nearby Lau Islands, the crew identified the substance as likely methamphetamine.19:54 The package featured a green wrapper and a yellow material, which the crew theorized served as a waterproof seal or flotation aid.20:41 After marking the location with a stick, the crew photographed the find and reported the coordinates to the Fijian Navy, who later confirmed collection of the item.18:49 The crew noted that South American drug cartels frequently utilize ocean currents and wind to drift narcotics through the South Pacific toward high-value markets in Australia and New Zealand.22:41 This discovery occurred shortly after the vessel underwent a routine boarding and search by the Fijian Navy, who are actively patrolling for drug trafficking in the region.1:10
