Chilu and Eze, a couple transitioning from land travel to sailing, undertake a professional freediving course in Puerto Rico to improve their underwater skills for future boat maintenance.2:56 Under the instruction of a national champion, they learn techniques for breath-holding, lung stretching, and ear equalization.5:06 The training emphasizes that freediving is a technical discipline requiring mental control and specific physical adjustments, such as using low-volume masks to minimize pressure and calculating individual ballast requirements for neutral buoyancy at 10 meters.18:01 During two days of practice, the pair progresses from initial difficulties with coordination and ear equalization to reaching depths of 9 meters.21:46 They identify freediving as a practical skill for sailors, noting its utility for clearing fouled propellers, inspecting anchors, or performing hull repairs without scuba gear.16:08 The experience highlights that while individual physiology affects how quickly a diver adapts to pressure, structured instruction significantly accelerates progress compared to self-taught methods.25:17 Consistent practice and proper technique are essential for safe, efficient underwater maneuvers.27:03
