After 181 days frozen in ice, the Garcia Nouanni 43 breaks free from its winter mooring in Sisimiut, Greenland. Juho and Sohvi Kangasluoma spent the winter secured to the shore with lines from the bow and stern, but shifting ice floes forced them to reposition the vessel as the bay thawed. The crew notes that securing a boat with shore lines creates excessive tension when wind hits the beam, making traditional anchoring a safer alternative once the ice clears. After clearing the ice, the boat anchors on short scope to maneuver out of the bay. The crew reflects on the decision to remain in one location for the entire season, noting that the experience allowed them to observe the transition from autumn through winter to spring and summer. They conclude that the winter season felt surprisingly short despite the extended duration of the stay.
