V-Berth Electrical Layout On A Small Sailboat: It's Tight, But It Should Work!

Andy installs a full Victron electrical suite into the V-berth of a 1970 Westwind Paceship 24, a 24-foot sailboat undergoing a complete refit. The system includes two 300-amp-hour Epic batteries and a Victron inverter-charger. To verify the layout in the confined space, he builds a physical mock-up using OSB templates to represent the battery bank and inverter footprints. The V-berth area measures approximately 6.5 feet in length and beam. Because the inverter-charger requires four inches of clearance on all sides for cooling, vertical mounting on the knee walls proved impossible. Andy decides to mount the unit horizontally in the center trunk area. To mitigate heat buildup from horizontal mounting, he plans to use a Victron Cerbo to trigger two DC computer fans, which will circulate air through the compartment and out a stainless louver. Accessory components, including the shunt and distributor, will mount on the outboard side of the knee walls behind removable access panels.
