Cordless polishing machines are tested against corded models for boat hull work, with Thomas Nilsson evaluating two Robi dual-action (oscillating and rotating) polishers on a 25-year-old blue-hulled boat. Both Robi units combine oscillating and rotating motion, which he contrasts with purely oscillating or purely rotating machines — rotating is more aggressive, oscillating gives a finer finish, and the dual-action design delivers both speed and quality. A 5 Ah battery provides adequate runtime; a 1.5 Ah pack saves weight for overhead work. One Robi model costs under 1,000 NOK without battery, the other 1,399 NOK, which Nilsson calls surprisingly competitive with corded tools. For compound, he uses TC Nano Nanopolis, a single-product cleaner-polish-protectant. For oxidized or heavily chalked gelcoat, he recommends Mirka Abralon wet-sanding pads (500–4000 grit) before polishing. Pad testing covers foam, wool, and microfiber; Nilsson favors a wool pad for cutting and finishes by hand with a microfiber cloth. He concludes that battery-powered polishers are now good enough to replace corded machines, and are the better choice when working on a boat afloat.0:46
