Cosa tratta questo video

Side berthing requires an approach angle of 30 to 40 degrees, aiming the bow toward the specific point on the dock where the vessel should come to rest. Select the side for berthing based on the propeller walk effect; choose the side toward which the stern naturally moves when the engine is in reverse. For most boats with dual steering wheels, this is the side where the throttle lever is located. Maintain the minimum speed necessary to keep the vessel steerable, increasing speed only as wind conditions dictate. As the boat nears the dock, shift to neutral to maintain momentum, then apply reverse gear and turn the rudder to bring the stern parallel to the quay. This technique serves as a reliable alternative to stern-to or bow-to mooring, particularly during extreme weather conditions or when refueling. Mastering this maneuver provides a critical backup plan for docking in marinas where standard slips are unavailable or inaccessible.
