A couple departing Olbia, Sardinia, encounters multiple technical failures while attempting a passage to the Balearic Islands. Shortly after leaving the quay, the crew discovers water entering the bilge, which they trace to a dislodged gas locker pipe; they secure the pipe with zip ties to stop the ingress. During the transit, the 12-year-old inverter fails, causing the water maker to cycle on and off intermittently. The crew manages to produce enough water to fill the tanks before the inverter becomes unreliable. Despite initial forecasts of a downwind run, the passage involves significant upwind sailing in 10 to 20 knots of wind, with boat speeds reaching 7.9 knots on a beam reach. The crew decides to bypass a planned anchorage due to unfavorable wind angles and continues directly toward Spain. They maintain power and water production by running the engine and monitoring the failing electrical system.
