A 20-year-old Lagoon catamaran undergoes an extensive refit in a remote boatyard to prepare for a passage to New Zealand. The owner repairs a rotten main bulkhead using fiberglass, resin, and acetone, while replacing a leaking bronze through-hull fitting with a Marlon ball valve. Maintenance tasks include cleaning raw water channels in the sail drives with a wire brush, replacing sail drive diaphragms, and investigating a suspected blown head gasket indicated by soot and crystallized residue in the exhaust elbow. The owner also installs Flexofold three-blade propellers to improve sailing performance.
