Oliver boards the world's largest passenger submarine for a dive off the coast of Hawaii. The vessel descends to view artificial reef structures installed by Atlantis in the late 1980s to promote coral growth in otherwise barren areas. During the excursion, the submarine pilot identifies a white-tip shark, a spotted eagle ray, and a free-swimming eel near the seafloor. The pilot notes that the hard stony coral species observed on the structures grow at a rate of only one-quarter to one-half inch per year. Visibility during the dive reaches 80 to 90 feet. The submarine operator confirms the vessel is capable of surface navigation and requires training for operation. The dive concludes after observing local marine life and the progress of the 35-year-old coral experiment.
