Sven Yrvind prepares his custom high-latitude, shallow-draught boat for a planned 14,000-mile nonstop voyage through the Southern Ocean.▶ 0:04 The current refit focuses on surface preparation and structural repairs before applying a new coat of yellow paint. Yrvind replaces his previous Verkehrsgelb (RAL 1023) finish with Zinkgelb (RAL 1018).▶ 1:50 To address structural wear, he uses a grinder to cut a slot in a damaged rail section, flattens the metal with hammers, and secures the repair with screws and rope.▶ 3:53 He reinforces the area by applying glass fiber and thickened epoxy, then sands the surface to achieve a smooth finish.▶ 4:19 The project also includes preparing the water collection system with epoxy.▶ 2:36 Despite his stated dislike for painting and electrical work, Yrvind continues the incremental refit process to ensure the vessel remains seaworthy for its upcoming circumnavigation route south of Africa and Australia.
