Sven Yrvind rigs an aft sail on his experimental boat to improve performance when sailing into the wind. By deploying a forward daggerboard and adjusting the aft sail, the boat weather-cocks to maintain a stable heading in heavy weather. The sail plan utilizes two masts with square sails to keep the center of effort low, measured at 1.9 meters above the waterline with a total sail area of 6 square meters. Yrvind installs sheets using a modified figure-eight knot, securing them to existing cleats and anchor points on the deck. He adjusts the sheet tension to manage sail shape and intends to use the sheet length to depower the rig in high winds rather than reefing. The setup allows the boat to maintain a slow, controlled speed while taking waves over the bow.Watch
