A singlehanded passage from the mainland to Cat Harbor, Catalina Island, resulted in two equipment failures for the host of Flight Level Zero. Upon arrival at the anchorage, the windlass failed while attempting to deploy the anchor, forcing the host to pick up a mooring ball instead.13:34 The following morning, the in-mast mainsail furling system jammed during departure.14:44 After troubleshooting while underway, the host discovered a severe twist in the furling line that caused it to jump the drum inside the mast.19:52 Clearing the line and re-running it restored the system, allowing for a return sail to San Pedro.20:01 During the trip, the host met a solo sailor from New Zealand aboard SV Bob, who is currently circumnavigating the Pacific.13:48 The passage also included sightings of the National Geographic Venture and the container ship Evergreen Everfast near the Los Angeles harbor entrance.23:52 A gale forecast of 35 to 40-knot winds prompted the early return to port.15:50
