Crew meets inside sailboat cabin, planning next move

Hva denne videoen dekker

A crew sailing toward the Antarctic Circle in the South Atlantic Ocean reversed a decision to divert to South Africa after successfully repairing their B&G autopilot system. The team, currently navigating near the 50th parallel, previously considered the diversion due to fatigue and recurring autopilot failures. After troubleshooting the hydraulic piston—supplied by Nautric—and stabilizing the steering, they resumed their original plan to reach the 66th parallel and attempt a landing on the Antarctic continent.

The crew maintains a daily routine of weather routing and strategy meetings to manage ice hazards and wind conditions. They monitor iceberg locations using PredictWind, noting that ice concentrations remain manageable with water temperatures around 11°C. To reduce strain on the steering system, the crew monitors rudder angle on their chartplotter, adjusting sail plan to keep rudder movement minimal. Despite encountering light winds and occasional calms, the vessel continues its circumnavigation attempt. Consistent maintenance of onboard systems and daily weather analysis remain critical to managing the vessel’s performance in high-latitude conditions.
