The crew of SV Cosmo installs Lumitech Javelin underwater lights on the stern and Lumitech Quattro lights on the bow to improve nighttime visibility and safety.▶ 0:31 The installation requires drilling holes through the hull below the waterline, necessitating careful measurement from the inside to avoid fuel tanks, rudder components, and bulkheads.▶ 1:05 After drilling, the team scuffs the light housings with 80-grit sandpaper and applies 3M 5200 sealant to ensure a watertight bond.▶ 6:14 To prevent potential leaks, they reinforce the installation areas with fiberglass and epoxy from both the inside and outside of the hull.▶ 15:17 Wiring is routed through existing chases and connected to a spare DC panel, allowing for independent control of the bow and stern lights.▶ 17:40 The lights provide illumination beneath the surface, which helps the crew identify underwater obstructions when entering anchorages at night without the glare associated with deck-mounted spotlights.▶ 18:56
