During the boat-buying process, they initially attempted to purchase a 38-foot Lagoon 380 in Florida but abandoned the deal after discovering the listing photos were five years old and the vessel was misrepresented. They advise hiring an independent surveyor for a preliminary walkthrough before traveling to inspect a boat. They eventually purchased their current vessel, Nahoa, after contacting the owners directly through a private listing. The couple regrets selling their townhome, noting that rental income would have covered the mortgage and the property value increased significantly. To monitor Nahoa remotely while away, they utilize a Barnacle security system, which tracks battery levels, bilge activity, and cabin conditions via a global SIM card.
