Hva denne videoen dekker
Curtis and Kate are sailing Sweet Ruca on a 48-hour upwind passage from the south side of Auer toward Majuro in the Marshall Islands. The crew maintains a conservative sail plan, keeping one reef in the mainsail and utilizing a staysail to manage speed and comfort in 15 to 20 knots of breeze. To ensure a daylight arrival in Majuro, they furl the Genoa and deploy the staysail, which reduces their speed from 9 knots to approximately 7.5–8.5 knots. Throughout the passage, the crew navigates through Pacific swells under two meters and maintains a watch for unlit fishing vessels lacking AIS. The transition from a full Genoa to a staysail involves easing the sheet while furling to prevent flogging, followed by hoisting the staysail at the mast. The crew reports that the staysail provides efficient performance for upwind conditions while keeping the motion of the boat manageable.
