The owners of a Cape George 38 cutter complete final interior and exterior refit projects in a Canadian boatyard ahead of a permanent launch. To address persistent leaks in the cabin portholes, the crew disassembles the frames using a custom plywood tool, cleans the glass, and reseals the components with Sikaflex. The refit includes varnishing teak interior beams and cabin soles, installing a donated clock and barometer, and mounting custom light fixtures from Boat System. A violin converted into a light fixture is reinstalled from a previous vessel. The crew also replaces a temporary plywood companionway board with a new door featuring a clear panel. Logistics for the upcoming departure involve clearing out a rental apartment and storage container, as well as importing specialized rigging, electrical, and plumbing parts from the United States to avoid courier fees. The vessel is scheduled to launch within a month, marking the end of a five-year rebuild. Proper sealing of porthole glass and frames requires removing old sealant and applying fresh adhesive to both the gasket and the glass interface.
