The Cape GEORGE 38 is a William Atkin and Cecil Lange-designed cutter-rigged sailboat, built by Cecil Lange & Son and Cape George Marine Works since 1985, featuring a long keel, an LOA of 11.6 m, a beam of 3.5 m, and a displacement of 13607 kg. Aboard *Sailing Magic Carpet*, the Cape GEORGE 38 *Magic Carpet* underwent extensive refits, including installing custom fiberglass hatches and gutters, framing bookshelves, and varnishing the overhead. The crew replaced the balsa core around the external chain plate mounting holes with G10 backing plates, which they curved to match the hull.5:51 They installed a Bluetti AC240 solar generator system with two expansion batteries and 400 watts of folding PV200 solar panels for temporary power.16:24 The crew applied seven coats of Coppercoat anti-fouling to the hull and acquired a 25-kilogram Vulcan anchor and 400 feet of 3/8-inch galvanized Titan chain, selecting the Vulcan for its roll-bar-free design to accommodate the bowsprit.19:29 They installed a new through-hull for the raw water intake and a custom stainless steel inspection port and manifold assembly on the diesel tank. *Magic Carpet* sailed through the Broughton Archipelago and Knight Inlet, where the crew encountered unpredictable winds and used a weighted fishing reel to manually verify depths due to unreliable depth sounders in glacial-fed waters.3:20
