The host undertakes a series of major refit projects in New Zealand while preparing for a passage to Fiji. The primary task involves fabricating custom fiberglass storage boxes using a negative mold technique, which requires applying primer, 2k clear gloss, wax, and PVA mold release before laying up fiberglass. The process encounters setbacks when humidity and cold temperatures cause the mold release to fail, forcing the host to strip and reapply the finish multiple times. Simultaneously, the host performs a complete rewire of the boat’s 12-volt system, installing five new, larger batteries in a reclaimed tub space and organizing all connections through new positive and negative bus bars and a shunt. To manage the upcoming passage to Fiji, the host recruits two Patreon supporters as crew to assist with the week-long transit. The refit work continues in a chilly, humid environment as the host prepares the vessel for departure.
