O que este vídeo aborda
A family of four aboard their 44-foot catamaran, Big Lost, completed a direct passage from Rock Sound, Eleuthera, to St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands to avoid the start of hurricane season. The crew opted for a direct route rather than island-hopping through the Turks and Caicos and Puerto Rico, resulting in a six-day journey characterized by stubborn headwinds, significant motoring, and a confused sea state. During the transit, the crew managed fuel levels by transferring 34 gallons of diesel from jerry cans to the main tanks. Technical issues included the failure of diesel engine exhaust fans, which were replaced with continuous-duty models, and a malfunctioning raw water pump on the port engine. The crew also struggled with a stiff mainsail track that required manual intervention to lower the sail, leading to a broken downhaul line during a docking attempt in Brewers Bay. The passage concluded with the vessel arriving in St. Thomas for a scheduled rigging inspection.
