Johan and Malin continue the custom boat build by laminating floor beams and preparing lengthwise stringers. Johan laminates the floor beams using 10 layers of cloth, vacuum bagging each to ensure structural integrity.4:38 To construct the stringers, they glue western red cedar planks together in batches of 10 using a vacuum bag to apply uniform pressure, approximately one atmosphere.11:40 Because the hull already possesses sufficient longitudinal stiffness from its planking and long keel, the stringers are designed in sections to fit between the transverse floor beams rather than as continuous members.9:47 The pair plans to streamline the subsequent fiberglass lamination of these stringers by using a saturation table to wet out all layers simultaneously before rolling them onto the hull.20:38 Outside the workshop, they remove dead beech trees to protect the house from winter storms and apply raw sheep wool to fruit trees to deter wildlife.3:23
