Leo Goolden visits two Cornwall-based projects that repurpose old wooden working boats. The first is Tetra, a former Cornish fishing boat rebuilt by Charlotte and Jess and launched in June as a restaurant cruise boat trading as Blue River Table.1:02 By the time of the visit — roughly six weeks into operation — the business was running breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner charters up the Truro River, anchoring at a spot where the pair serve meals from a large banquet table.2:04 The rebuild replaced a 185-horsepower Volvo engine with a smaller unit and added a substantial deck structure; local shipwrights in the Falmouth-Penryn area provided much of the skilled labour.4:16 The second project is Annie, a 110-year-old, 47-foot, 60-ton Danish fishing vessel owned by Steve, based in Gweek.9:30 Steve is converting Annie into a marine plastic-cleanup and education vessel, building a compactor from a BMX and a cider press to process collected waste, and plans voyages to the Hebrides and beyond.10:27 Steve also proposes rebuilding a Perkins 4236 diesel engine for Tally Ho and delivering it by sailing through the Northwest Passage to Sequim, Washington — an option Goolden considers seriously but has not yet decided on.14:02
