What this video covers
A solo sailor on a Beneteau Oceanus 46 navigates a three-day passage from Marsh Harbour, Abacos, to Georgia, encountering multiple severe thunderstorms and lightning. While motor-sailing the Gulf Stream, the vessel reaches speeds of 11.5 knots before encountering a weather system that produces water spouts and high winds. Upon arrival in Georgia, the sailor uses the CBP ROAM app to check into the United States. While anchored in five meters of water, an unforecasted storm with gusts estimated at 70 to 76 knots causes the boat to drag. Initially anchored at a 4:1 scope, the vessel heels until a cabin window is submerged. The sailor maneuvers the boat forward under full throttle to relieve tension on the windlass, releases the snubber, and pays out additional chain to achieve a 10:1 scope, which secures the vessel. The sailor eventually moves to a marina to prepare the boat for a multi-month haul-out.
