Out of Water Aboard Our Sailboat! | Sailing Zephyr - Ep. 246

What this video covers

The crew of the 45-ft sailboat Zephyr repairs a malfunctioning Spectra Ventura 150 watermaker while anchored in Marsh Harbour, The Bahamas. The system stopped producing water when the feed pump failed to maintain pressure. The owner replaces the Shurflo feed pump, installs a new pressure sensor, and replaces the seawater intake strainer. Because the pump head orientation on the new unit differs from the original, the owner unbolts and rotates the head 90 degrees to align with existing hoses. The installation requires splicing electrical connections for the pump's cooling fan, which the owner seals with heat-shrink tubing. After reassembly, the crew performs a freshwater flush to purge air from the lines and tightens a leaking hose fitting. The system successfully builds pressure and cycles the Clark pump, confirming the repair. Replacing the feed pump and sensor restores the watermaker to full operation after 11 years of service.
