NEW EQUIPMENT ON BOARD

What this video covers

The owner of the sailboat Odin performs several maintenance and upgrade tasks, including replacing the staysail halyard and installing new electronics. To replace the staysail halyard, the owner splices a quick-release shackle onto the new line using a whipping technique with sewing thread to ensure a secure, durable connection. A new VHF radio replaces an existing unit that failed to transmit, despite the antenna and cabling testing as functional. Because the new radio’s chassis does not fit the existing console cutout, the owner fabricates a custom mounting plate from aluminum, which is cut to size and spray-painted white to match the interior. A professional technician is scheduled to perform the final electrical connections and NMEA integration to maintain warranty coverage. Additionally, the owner installs a fixed 220V power strip and mounts a 61cm television using a custom-built, low-profile plexiglass bracket to save space. The project list also includes installing exterior safety netting and a waterproof housing for a 12V cigarette lighter socket.
