How to make a light plan

What this video covers

Leon Schulz walks through a hands-on method for planning a full LED lighting refit aboard a Hallberg-Rassy 46, working through the saloon, forepeak, toilet, galley, and aft cabin.0:15 The planning tool is a printed boat-layout sheet downloaded from Boatsystems' homepage, on which he sketches bulkheads and marks each lighting zone in a different color — orange for mahogany trim, separate colors for each tape type — so the plan doubles as an installation guide.

Three LED products appear in the layout: a stronger LED tape for the saloon ceiling (3.2 m per side) to supplement reading light, a weaker LED tape for indirect under-cupboard lighting (1.45 m per side) hidden behind mahogany trim lists, and a mini sleeve strip (2 m) on the flooring, which he calls ideal for night sailing. Where a mahogany list is missing, he measures the gap — 1.45 m — and adds the list itself to the materials list. The final tally must include an LED stabilizer to protect the diodes, plus breakers or dimmers. For owners using a yard, he recommends interior photos annotated with a pen to communicate placement clearly.
