What this video covers

The 10-year restoration of the former fishing trawler *Brupeg* now supports maritime training for Australian Navy Cadets along the Queensland coast.10:33 Host Damien and crew member Jess provide hands-on instruction to cadets, focusing on engine room systems, navigation, and helm control.0:33 The vessel, a heavy steel craft, requires specific handling techniques, including managing gearbox lag and steering delays when maneuvering in tight port environments.1:06 Cadets learn to interpret AIS data, identify cardinal marks and lead lights, and adjust course for passenger comfort relative to swell direction.5:53 The training program categorizes cadets into maritime support, operations, and engineering tracks, tailoring onboard tasks to each specialty.11:40 Practical exercises include docking procedures using stern and spring lines, as well as navigating shallow channels marked by sandbars and pile markers.10:09 The project relies on community support to facilitate these youth maritime education sessions.12:40
