Climbing the Tallest Mast at the Marina | Sailing Balachandra E029

What this video covers

Dan and Noelle replace the aging B&G Hercules wind instruments on their boat, Balachandra, after the original cockpit dials faded and became unreadable. To complete the upgrade, Dan climbs the 67-foot mast to install a new Windex and secure a wobbly digital wind vane. He uses a bosun’s chair as his primary seat, supplemented by a rock-climbing harness and an ascender on a separate halyard for safety. To prevent dropped tools, he tethers every item to a string. After cutting new holes in the cockpit bulkhead for the updated Raymarine multi-unit and wind displays, he seals the openings with epoxy to prevent leaks and gel coat cracks. The crew also transitions their video editing workflow from After Effects to Adobe Premiere, reducing production time from over a week to four days.
