What this video covers
Chris Lester, a novice sailor with no prior experience, completes a week-long training program during the October Sharpen Up Flotilla in Croatia.0:39 Under the instruction of Nick, Lester gains hands-on experience by helming yachts and performing maneuvers, including docking under sail and responding to unexpected commands.3:21 The flotilla involves six yachts, providing exposure to various boat layouts, handling characteristics, and mooring techniques, such as Mediterranean mooring.4:34 These sessions serve as a practical transition for Lester, who previously completed a one-on-one week of training in June to evaluate his interest in purchasing a yacht.2:19 The Croatian coastline offers accessible sailing with short distances between islands and bays, allowing for frequent stops and varied conditions.7:00 Engaging with other skippers and crews during the flotilla provides additional insight into chartering and boat ownership.5:24 Practical training in real-world conditions, rather than theoretical study, accelerates the learning process for beginners.
