What this video covers
Prada, a Siberian Husky–German Shepherd mix held in isolation at Coconut Hound Haven in the Dominican Republic, needs a home in a cold climate — ideally Canada — because her thick double coat makes tropical life unsuitable.17:08 Daniel, a liveaboard sailor, has spent months visiting twice a week to leash-train Prada, teaching her not to pull and to stay calm around smaller dogs.0:47 For her adoption-day outing, he loads her into a tuk-tuk, ferries her by dinghy to his sailboat, then takes her paddleboarding and hiking.9:05 She adapts quickly to each new environment.20:27 Coconut Hound Haven currently houses 70 dogs against a preferred capacity of 45–50; annual adoptions have dropped from 300 to 100 due to COVID-era restrictions.0:41 Adoption to the US is currently difficult; Canada is the preferred destination.54:40 Total cost to bring Prada to Canada — flights, crate, vaccines, parasite removal, microchip, adoption fees, leash, and harness — runs approximately CAD $600.56:24 Applications go to applications@dcdr.org, with Kim, the sanctuary's live-on-site founder, making final adoption decisions.55:12
