What this video covers
After three years of full-time cruising in the Sea of Cortez, Chris and Jessica Hanna are selling their boat, Blue Pearl, and ending their liveaboard lifestyle. The decision follows a series of health challenges, including a diagnosis of advanced arthritis in Jessica’s hip, chronic sciatica, and prostate cancer for Chris. The couple, currently based in San Carlos, Mexico, plans to list the vessel with La Paz Yacht Sales. Over their three-year tenure, the pair logged approximately 4,000 miles and completed seven crossings of the Sea of Cortez. They report that the vessel, which features a 65-foot deck and a 17.5-foot beam, has undergone extensive upgrades to its electronics and mechanical systems, including the generator and windlass. The couple cites the high maintenance demands of boat ownership, recurring issues with local honeybee infestations, and past emergency incidents—such as a steering failure near Bonanza and a near-collision with a dragging charter boat—as factors that contributed to the stress of their journey.
